Welcome to THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Website
In my quest to become a more informed citizen, be able to share these important skills with others, to make this a staple in my classroom, and become a better CRAP Detector, I have created THATS CRAP DETECTION a series of interviews, tools, lessons, and resources. It is my hope that these materials can help teachers, students, and any one interested in become more digital / media literate and be able to better examine information found on the web.
THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Lesson
Using the RCSD Connected Educators lesson template, I created a lesson plan that one can use and adapt to kick start CRAP Detection in the classroom (any feedback / suggestions / adaptations welcome). I also created a CRAP Detection Information Worksheet that can be used to analyze sources found online (used Comic Life to make this graphic and the converted to a PDF). I thought an infographic could provide a nice overview of CRAP Detection and be a starting point for discussion, so I created one (used Vis.me to create this with). I have also provided videos that walk one through the lesson and support documents.

THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Video and Podcast Series
To further my understanding of CRAP Detection, both what it is and how people are employing (and my quest to become a 'world famous' YouTuber or podcaster - I used Zoom and WeVideo to create the videos and podcasts), I reached out to a variety of guests to talk a little CRAP ... Detection. So in THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Show, I focused my questions around the following topics:
I also decided to create a THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Toolkit playlist. In this series, I attempt to go over all the CRAP I've learned on my journey and help those trying to use THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Lesson. I enjoyed planning, creating, editing, and most of all the rich conversations I had with some amazing people. I know my CRAP a lot more because of this.
- personal / professional experiences with inaccurate / fake news
- tools and strategies used to analyze, debunk, and verify information
- how to find the balance between falling for anything and believing nothing

Sometimes a good conversation does not have to be recorded on video or audio, check out the great conversation I had with Archbishop M.C. O’Neill Catholic High School’s Resource Teacher, Lisa Hautcoeur.

THATS CRAP DETECTION - The Resources
Through great conversations, sharing from my PLN (including the great ECI 832 crew), and research I have done for this project, I have put together a Wakelet full of CRAP Detection resources - what is CRAP, fact checking tools, imaging check tools, bias checking info, lesson plans, strategies, tweets and who to follow, videos, and inforgraphics. I plan to continue to curate this resource as I will continue to pursue and learn more about CRAP Detection.
THATS CRAP Detection - The Project Review (and great conversation)
I had a great conversation reflecting on my project and taking questions from two great people from my ECI 832 class (and now important people in my PLN and also just two great people I consider friends - Matteo Di Muro @MatteoDiMuro and Curtis Bourassa @MrBourassaED). We also reflected on their great projects and many take-aways from our ECI 832 Class. Enjoy :-)
